Alkynyl stearic acid can be used to identify and characterize the post translation acylation reaction of proteins, and has a strong click chemistry. The terminal carboxylic acid can react with the primary amine group in the presence of an activator (such as EDC or HATU) to form a stable amide bond. The propargyl group reacts with azide containing compounds or biological molecules through copper catalyzed azide click chemistry to produce stable triazole bonds.
