原文："And this is August," Mr. Tushman said. Mom kind of stepped to the side a bit, so I would move forward. Then that thing happened that I've seen happen a million times before. When I looked up at her, Mrs. Garcia's eyes dropped for a second. It was so fast no one else would have noticed, since the rest of her face stayed exactly the same. She was smiling a really shiny smile.

文中的這個(gè)部分，這里的這個(gè)“笑”是Mrs.G希望別人看到的，是想要展現(xiàn)給別人（也就是Auggie和他媽媽）的。因?yàn)樽鳛橐粋€(gè)有教養(yǎng)的成年人她知道現(xiàn)在是什么情況，也清楚自己應(yīng)該對(duì)小孩表現(xiàn)出十足的親和力，來(lái)讓Auggie接納，讓媽媽放心，但是這種感覺(jué)畢竟是“裝出來(lái)”的，可能并不完全是裝，但是確實(shí)有一點(diǎn)“刻意”，因?yàn)榍拔闹小把凵裎⑽㈤W躲”才是她最真實(shí)、最本能的反應(yīng)，從而才和后文中Auggie表示只要Mrs.G不露出那樣的笑容自己是有一點(diǎn)喜歡她的相呼應(yīng)，因?yàn)橐恢币詠?lái)Auggie想要的都不是刻意的親切和關(guān)注，他想要?jiǎng)e人像對(duì)待普通（ordinary）的小孩一樣對(duì)待他，刻意的關(guān)心會(huì)讓他有點(diǎn)不舒服。

而且后面Mrs.G聊到他的孫子的時(shí)候，原文是：

"No, my goodness!" said Mrs. Garcia, smiling a big smile now that was totally different from her shiny smile. "You've just made my day. He's my grandson."

這里Auggie的心中是將這個(gè)“大大的笑容（big smile）”和之前Mrs.G對(duì)他綻放的shiny smile做了個(gè)比較，強(qiáng)調(diào)了“different”，而且從后文中Mrs.G本來(lái)準(zhǔn)備給大家講她的孫兒，但是突然停住，文中的表述是：

"Thank you!" said Mrs.Garcia, nodding like she was about to say something else about her grandson. But all of a sudden her smile got a little smaller. "We're all going to take very good care of August," She said to Mom, and I saw her give Mom's hand a little squeeze.

從這里“all of a sudden”也可以看出Mrs.G是一個(gè)非常有分寸、有一定同理心的成年人，她能夠敏銳地察覺(jué)到此時(shí)不應(yīng)該繼續(xù)孫兒這個(gè)話題，因?yàn)樗膶O兒超可愛(ài)（原文中Auggie的媽媽使用cutie來(lái)形容，但是無(wú)論怎樣，Mrs.G的孫兒是一個(gè)正常（ordinay）的小孩），她害怕因此刺痛Auggie和他媽媽，所以轉(zhuǎn)移話題說(shuō)“我們一定會(huì)照顧好奧古斯特”，然后捏捏媽媽的手手，讓Auggie的媽媽放心。
