  • import: to introduce good news, customs, or ideas to one country from another

eg. To Rosings he then hastened to console Lady Catherine and her daughter; and on his return brought back, with great satisfaction, a message from her Ladyship, importing that she felt herslef so dull to make her very desirous of having them all to dine with her.

    eg. Lady Catherine seemed resigned.

  • discreditable: causing or likely to cause a loss of respect for a person, group, or idea

eg. It would really be discreditable to you to let them go alone.

  • upbraid: to forcefully or angrily tell someone they should not have done a particular thing and criticize them for having done it

eg. When she considered how unjustly she had condemed and upbraided him, her anger was turned against herself.

  • chagrin: disappointment or anger, especially when caused by a failure or mistake

eg. In her own past behaviour, there was a constant source of vexation and regret; and in the unhappy defects of her family, a subject of yet heavier chagrin.

  • giddiness: a silly, happy, excited feeling that shows in your behaviour

eg. Her father, contented with laughing at them, would never exert himself to restrain the wild giddiness of his youngest daughters.

  • irritable: becoming annoyed very easily

eg. Catherine, weak-spirited, irritable, and completely under Lydia's guidance, had been always affronted by their advice.

  • replete: full, especially with food

indecorum: behaviour that is rude, not controlled, or against accepted social customs

eg. How grievous then was the thought that, of a situation so desirable in every respect, so replete with advantage, so promising for happiness, Jane had been deprived, by the folly and indecorum of her own family!
