中國(guó)政府一直重視義務(wù)教育，使每個(gè)兒童都有受教育的機(jī)會(huì)，自1986年《義務(wù)教育法》生效以來(lái)，經(jīng)過(guò)不懈努力，實(shí)現(xiàn)全民義務(wù)教育的目標(biāo)。如今，在中國(guó)，兒童從6歲開(kāi)始上小學(xué)，從小學(xué)到初中接受九年義務(wù)教育，自2008年秋季開(kāi)始，義務(wù)教育階段無(wú)需繳納學(xué)費(fèi)，隨著一系列教育改革的實(shí)施，中國(guó)義務(wù)教育質(zhì)量顯著提高。

Currently, in China, children begin attending primary school at the age of six and receive nine years of compulsory education from primary to junior high school.
