Winner Solstice is a day with the longest daytime and the shortage night in a year, which marks the beginning of the coldest time through the year. After the Winner Solstice, the temperature drop/falls continuously and (people’s) outdoor activities gradually decrease. Famers have less work and mainly engaged in the maintenance of irrigation system and the prevention of main corps from getting frozen. At the same time, famers also prepare for sowing/painting the next spring. Chinese people have attached importance to Winner Solstice over the years. In many places, it is regarded as a festival and is celebrated in various ways. People in the north have the custom of eating Jiaozi in the Winner solstice while/and people in the south have the tradition of having tangyuan.
