多達70%的小胖威利兒童可能患有語言障礙。低肌張力會影響說話速度、聲音質(zhì)量以及協(xié)調(diào)舌、唇、顎和腭運作的能力。說話可能會變慢、口齒不清或有鼻音。

導(dǎo)致小胖威利患者有語言問題的另一個原因是神經(jīng)發(fā)育遲緩。當大腦告訴肌肉該做什么時，信息就會被擾亂，信號無法被正確地翻譯，這就是所謂的言語障礙。

有語言障礙的兒童可以通過手語或視覺卡學(xué)習(xí)交流。這不僅不會進一步加深語言障礙，而且將幫助他們學(xué)習(xí)詞匯和語言，直到他們的嘴和語言系統(tǒng)能夠同步。這也可以讓不會說話的孩子通過這種方式表達自己的想法，以此可以減少沮喪和經(jīng)常發(fā)脾氣的情況。

建議出生時患有小胖威利的兒童盡早定期去看言語治療師，以培養(yǎng)早期進食所需的口腔運動技能，這將有助于以后的言語表達。

PWS AND SPEECH

Speech disorders can occur in as many as 70% of children with PWS. ?Hypotonia (low muscle tone) can affect the rate of speech, quality of the voice, and the ability to coordinate movements of the tongue, lips, jaws and palate. ?Speech may be slowed, slurred and/or nasal.

Another reason why people with PWS could have speech problems is due to neurological developmental delays. ?When the brain tells the muscles what to do, the messages gets scrambled and the signals can’t be translated properly. ?This is called verbal dyspraxia.

Children with speech delays can learn to communicate via sign language and/or visual cards. ?This will not delay their speech further but will help them develop their vocabulary and language until their mouth and speech system can catch up. ?It can also reduce frustrations, and inevitable tantrums, by allowing children who are nonverbal a way to express themselves.

It is recommended that children born with PWS see a speech therapist regularly as early as possible to develop the oral-motor skills needed early for feeding which will later help for speech.
