Last night, I experienced something new,
一頓奇妙的菜肴來(lái)自令人意想不到的出處!
an extraordinary meal from a singularly unexpected source.
如果說(shuō)這頓菜肴和它的創(chuàng)作者
To say that both the meal and its maker
挑戰(zhàn)了我對(duì)美食先入為主的觀念
have challenged my preconceptions about fine cooking
這么說(shuō)還太含蓄
is a gross understatement.
他們徹底的震撼了我
They have rocked me to my core.
過(guò)去我曾公開嗆聲
In the past, I have made no secret of my disdain

for Chef Gusteau's famous motto,
“料理非難事”嗤之以鼻!
"Anyone can cook."
不過(guò)我發(fā)現(xiàn)現(xiàn)在我終于真正了解他的意思
But I realize only now do I truly understand what he meant.
并非是誰(shuí)都能成為偉大的藝術(shù)家
Not everyone can become a great artist,
不過(guò)偉大的藝術(shù)家卻可能來(lái)自任何角落
but a great artist can come from anywhere.
現(xiàn)今在食神餐廳掌廚的天才們
It is difficuly to imagine more humble origins
出身之低微令人難以想象
than those of the genius now cooking at Gusteay's,

who is, in this critic's opinion,

nothing less than the finest chef in France.
