Director:
want to make sth new after films about Thailand
When traveling he suffered from a symptom (exploding head syndrome) like Jessica, but his sound not jumpy
Connect with others
“I love hospitals.”
?
Tilda:
Jessica is a predicament
Enter into a dream
Strange place for both of them
Not build a character but find an environment where she can be dislocated and connected, add personal experience, feeling of outside of society, running of the world, meaning that she is completely connected with nature
?
Director:
About the dead moment
Shoot long-take
Living portrait in Colombia
?
Tilda:
A huge blessing of us being lost/ Make virtue of it
?
Doing active research in Personal/political history in Colombia?
Tilda: we want sense of lostness/connectiveness and continue to work on the reverberation of trauma
Thailand/Scotland --find the third pill :Colombia
2019-2021 make a film about past present /resonance for Colombian is really immense
?
Director:
Listen to stories about sound
Bang! People’s anticipation: Gunshot/explosion/firework… collage of my memory
?
Bogota:
Shift all the time like you are in communication/negotiation with nature (weather)
The sound at the end:
Director:
A cinematic experience
A meditative practice only available in this city
Collective and individual in theater: you approach it differently
?
The focus in this film: being aware/~of internal vibration, grief, or happiness
The key is to accept that, to embrace and liberate
?
Tilda:
Rigor and freedom within it
The rhythm, not just the sound, the pulse of the film is in the hands of all the people in the frame, including birds
Human is relating to all of that when we came to the final scene
?
A mystery film: the question: what is the sound?
Jessica is simply a predicament
A strange piece of tightrope time travel and trust to know what we were responding to would be in the future. It was a sort of leap to imagine what would satisfy this question.
We just played with that.
?
Director:
Design the soundscape: not clear when shooting, but build up
Work with the sound designer/ calibrate the sound
Particular, interesting and personal
?
Lots of reduction
We just need Jessica to follow her to be aware and keep space for people
?
Being there, life, presence of sound, be acute
?
Tilda:
Every sound is welcome. Jessica is responding to, not offering too much
I really love the inadequacy in performance and in narrative/ the silence and tentativeness in humans, the animal part of us.
?
Being lost, but the truth is that joe’s frame is rigorous and organized
My task is to go and experience all of this and respond to it with no plan
A grateful environment to work in
?
How Jessica describes her condition in the sound engineering studio
Kind of cinema
Everything we think sounds different in our own head
The solution comes by looking at established industrial movie, they exist and are useful
Jessica’s ability to speak Spanish increases as the film goes on. She gets into the country and she’s all fluent.
