The main purpose of this class is to discuss two topics on the basis of reflecting on the results of previous tasks. Yes, we are going to start the discussion.
These two topics are:
TOPIC 1:Independent Originality
TOPIC 2:Critical Creativity
Do you remember the objectivity of the description we mentioned in the last class? If you have thought about this problem seriously, it will be very helpful for today's content teaching.
In the last task feedback, classmate a mentioned that "things are objective, but people will add their subjective emotions when facing something." Classmate b believes that "trying as objective description means justice and is not affected by personal ideas". Classmate c also stressed that "it is not whose point of view can convince whom, but whose Opinions can better reflect the true nature of things." These are "objective descriptions" of several central contents in the last task; we found that these three views, more or less, are representative.
Now that we have reached the "discussion" stage, we will inevitably involve "views"; and since we want to discuss, it must include the process of "discussion".
1. Independent originality
The rigor we talked about in the last class is an academic attitude, which is what should be in the teaching process of the EAP course, and it is also one of the goals that the course pursues and strives to achieve. For example, does this attitude mean "the ability of something to limit someone\\\'s freedom very much" or "the quality of Being impossible to change or persuade”(c.f. “the quality of being stiff, fixed, or impossible to be Nd"), or "the qualities of being careful and accurate". If you carefully investigate and compare, and finally extract the original information after induction and abstraction, and combine your own understanding to form a new understanding and insight, then you can truly understand the rigor we are talking about, whether it is rigidity or strictness, or precisio. N (preciseness), which is also one of the important meanings of the learning process of this lesson.
At the beginning of the above process, it must be an individual independent behavior. Even if this lesson involves "discussion", before that, each member of the discussion must communicate with others with their personal achievements. Originality can sometimes be a collective result, but it must be based on the efforts (or efforts) of individual members. Therefore, independent views are innate and necessary for originality, and originality is also the only way to be confirmed by personal or team views later - only you or your team know how your proposition is "proved" or "falsified". Otherwise, how can we convince others in the discussion?
2. Critical innovation
In this way, we can also review the tasks we have done, and we can always learn knowledge from reflection. Criticism is not a derogatory term that we usually understand, nor is it completely "criticism" (picking others?). It is mostly a neutral word in the academic context. In this lesson, I think this is a positive word. Criticizing the views of yourself or others and the existing consensus, of course, on the basis of providing sufficient evidence, is an important way to create new knowledge and views.
Take the task we have done as an example. For example, to learn English, you have to pay inevitably, and pay attention to the gains in the process of the task, rather than completing the task itself as soon as possible. Translation itself is not just to express the two languages in a different way. The screening and extraction of information in the translation process, and the induction and abstraction of language content are the embodiment of the rigor of learning itself. If you want to criticize whether you have gained anything in the previous task, just ask yourself: Is the results of my task completely original? Or do you find Baidu translation and copy and paste it directly?
In fact, we can still do better. In the process of criticizing the completion of our tasks, we have formed a personal point of view: how to learn is the best way to improve our real language, which is the real gain. Some have completed the task formally, but in fact they have only completed the "teacher's" task; such criticism and thinking, after this discussion, can make us continue to improve ourselves and go further.?
So we mentioned more elements, such as "based", "source" and so on. The "based" is related to supporting evidence, which makes our point of view more solid, while the "source" is related to information, which allows us to trace back to what other factors are affected by our own judgment. In short, at this stage, as long as we can clearly explain where the information (data) comes from, who the author is, when it was obtained, or when it was created. It may be necessary to use a specific format to express this source in the future, but it is more than enough to use it in the discussion of today's class.
