There was nothing wrong with the surroundings; on the contrary. Emily liked the coolness and shadows of Tanager Way. There were many rooms, the ceilings high. The best part was the two toilets connected by an elongated, shared bathroom. Finally, there was some personal space and mysticism after all the months on the tour bus and in hotel rooms.

Emails and text messages and phone calls that Emily could not sift through at all. In the flood of commitments, what was important and what could be opted out of? How could she judge that? Everything in Tim’s world felt unbelievably important.

Emily had learned Tim’s pattern by now. When he was asked, he almost always thought that such a commitment was cool – he also wanted his music to be as widespread as possible. The assignment was often six months ahead of time and was still abstract enough for him to say yes.

Despite the intensive work on the record, the touring would continue. In mid-February 2013, Tim flew to Argentina, to where Ultra Music Festival had now expanded.

Harry himself stood in the so-called front of house, an enclosed section in the middle of the audience from where the sound was handled, and in real time matched up the various film clips with the songs that Tim was playing.

Also on the tour was the new production manager Charlie Alves, a big and blunt guy from Chicago who had toured with the performance group Blue Man Group and the crooner Michael Bublé. He ran around the huge lighting rigs and stage constructions and shouted in his headset, making sure that everyone in the production played together.

Charlie had been nicknamed Sergeant Bilko, after the talkative military commander in the 90s movie of the same name.

When Tim stepped off the stage, he was dripping with sweat, the adrenalin rushed through him. The tension of standing alone in front of so many people was impossible to get used to. When they got back to the hotel, he turned to production manager Charlie Alves.

Then it was off to Spain. At a gathering for the telecom industry, the song that had been made together with the fans would be presented. Filip Holm and Marcus Lindgren had sat on Styrmansgatan through the nights and listened to thirteen thousand entries, one bass line worse than the next. Since the components came separately, it had proved impossible to get a feel for how the pieces of the puzzle would sound together and, in the end, it had still been Tim who’d had to paste everything together into somewhat of a song. Nonetheless, it was now called ‘Avicii X You’.

In front of the suits in Barcelona, Tim was interviewed by Ericsson’s CEO Hans Vestberg, before they went and ate together with Arash, Per Sundin from Universal, and a sales manager at Ericsson.
