英語中有時為了句子之間銜接的需要，從而使用被動結(jié)構(gòu)。

1. The Middle Eastern bazaar takes you back hundreds—even thousands—of years.

The one I am thinking of particularly is entered by a Gothic-arched gateway of aged

brick and stone.

中東集市把你帶回到幾百年前——甚至幾千年——以前。我特別想到的那個集市

要從一個用磚石砌成的哥特式的拱形門洞進(jìn)去，磚石都已年深日久。

第二句中的 “one”指代上一句中的“bazaar”，使用了語篇中的“替代”銜接手段，通

上面幾句中的主語“she”都是指同一個人，為了做到句子之間的銜接，最后一句

使用了被動結(jié)構(gòu)。

5. She arrived on Saturday afternoon, and was received by assembled family like a

very dear friend.

她是星期六下午到的，她被當(dāng)作一個很親的朋友一樣，受到全家人的列隊歡迎。

為了銜接需要，共用一個主語，所以后面需要用被動結(jié)構(gòu)。

6. So I called myself Pip, and came to be called Pip.（同上）

我叫自己皮普，后來別人也就這么稱呼我。

7. Wondering what became of John Rabe, Chang was led to his granddaughter.

懷著對約翰雷伯近況的好奇，張女士找到了他的孫女。

因為“Chang”是“Wondering”的邏輯主語，為了使邏輯關(guān)系清楚，后面使用了被動

結(jié)構(gòu)。

8. I was shown by the waiter to what looked at first like common outhouses at the

other end of it, but they turned out to be a suite of rooms.

侍者把我領(lǐng)到院子另一端的房子那兒，初看起來像普通的附屬建筑，原來

是一套客房。

9. At the first street corner they were joined by the several men who had followed the

sheriff.

在第一個街道拐角，幾個原先跟著警長的人加入他們中間。
