Allow me first to apologize.

I do, like many of you, appreciate the comforts of the everyday routine, the security of the familiar, the tranquility of repetition.

I enjoy them as much as any bloke.

不過就節(jié)慶的角度來講…

But in the spirit of commemoration-

這節(jié)慶是指過去的重大事件，通常和某人的死亡有關或者血腥殘酷的爭斗的結束，用美好的假日來慶祝

Whereby important events of the past，usually associated with someone's death or the end of some awful, bloody struggle，are celebrated with a nice holiday

我想我們可以紀念今年的11月5日

I thought we could mark this November the 5th...

一個被可悲地遺忘了的日子

a day that is, sadly, no longer remembered...

通過從生活中抽出一點時間坐下來聊聊的方式

by taking time out of our daily lives to sit down and have a little chat.

當然有些人不希望我們說話

There are, of course, those who do not want us to speak.

就在此時此刻，電話里吼叫著命令，全副武裝的人很快就會上路

Even now, orders are being shouted into telephones and men with guns will soon be on their way.

為什么？

Why?

因為盡管沉默代替了談話…

Because while the truncheon may be used in lieu of conversation...

言語卻總是能保持它的力量

words will always retain their power.

言語提供了表達見解的方式

Words offer the means to meaning

而且它可以告訴那些愿意傾聽的人們真相

and, for those who will listen, the enunciation of truth.

而真相是這個國家有些事情不正常得可怕，對嗎？

And the truth is there is something terribly wrong with this country, isn't there?

殘暴、不公、歧視和鎮(zhèn)壓

Cruelty and injustice, intolerance and oppression.

在這塊土地上，你們曾經有過反對的自由，有過思考和言論的自由

And where once you had the freedom to object to think and speak as you saw fit

你們現在擁有的是脅迫你們就范的審查制度和監(jiān)視系統(tǒng)

you now have censors and surveillance coercing your conformity and soliciting submission.

-這是怎么發(fā)生的？這要怪誰？

How did this happen? Who's to blame?

當然有些人要背負比其他人更大的責任

Certainly there are those who are more responsible than others.

他們會為此付出代價的

And they will be held accountable.

不過話說回來，你們如果要找罪人的話…

But again, truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty...

照照鏡子就行了

you need only look into a mirror.

我知道你為什么這樣做

I know why you did it.

我知道你害怕

I know you were afraid.

誰不會呢？戰(zhàn)爭、恐怖事件、疾病

Who wouldn't be? War, terror, disease.

曾經有無數的問題企圖要

There were a myriad of problems which conspired

摧毀你的理性，剝奪你的常識

to corrupt your reason and rob you of your common sense.

恐懼控制了你

Fear got the best of you.

你在慌亂中投向了元首先生亞當?蘇特勒

And in your panic, you turned to the now High Chancellor Adam Sutler.

他許諾給你們秩序，他許諾給你們和平

He promised you order, he promised you peace

所要的回報是你的服從和沉默

and all he demanded in return was your silent, obedient consent.

Last night, I sought to end that silence.

then I ask you to stand beside me,

And together, we shall give them a 5th of November
