Cave Story

Toby:
I love this game.
I'm not kidding.

Yume Nikki

Wowwwww, thanks for posting this, Gonmon! I've gotten 17 Effects, and I'm really addicted, although it's gonna be a pain to find the last few. The maze element of the game gets kind of annoying, but everytime I find a new area it's sooooooo cool. Everybody play it!

Toby:
The knife is just sitting in the ROOM THAT YOU NEED A LAMP FOR BECAUSE IT IS DARK
I have 21 effects, I'm having trouble finding the last four.
Oooooh, this game is so cool!
其他人:
INCORRECT.
Knife is in the super ultra dark room. You need the lamp ability to see it properly, which is found in the trippy area (Top right door, the grey one with a red eye thing).
Toby:
Sorry!
Anyway, I just beat it.
The ending blows, though. What the heck was that? It really didn't do the game justice at all.

EB Master: At E25 you can drop all the eggs. Otherwise it's pointless.

其他人:
I still need to get the knife.
I wandered the red eye door for about an hour. No luck.
Toby:
The knife is in the room that you need the lamp in, I made a typo.
Get the lamp in the trippy arms/legs on walls happyfaces numbers on the ground secondary area, where the lamps are. He's just wandering around in there.
After a certain point I kind of felt like I was missing something... if you post the list of abilities you have, I can tell you where to get the others, but wandering around looking for them is pretty much the point. There are always more areas you've never seen.

其他人:
To find the Lamp, go into the room with a red eye that you were talking about. In there is another door that has a bunch of zeros and ones in front of it. In that door is a black area with street lights everywhere. Somewhere in there is a small lamp with feet walking around. Talk to it to get the Effect. Then use that to go to the dark area. With the Lamp on, it'll still be dark, but you'll be able to see. Somewhere in there is the Knife. It's between to giant hands formed by symbols on the ground.
And I'm really needing some help finding?anything. I finally found a new area, and all it did was wake me up
Edit: Here's a list of all the Effects I currently have:
Frog Hat and scarf Yuki - onna Knife Madamaude Fat Midget Flute Neon Napperabou Severed Head Cat Lamp Bicycle Long Hair Poop Hair Blonde Hair Demon Buyo Buyo Stoplight
Toby:
What you're missing:
Umbrella - In the area with puddles and lamplights, wander around. It's just sitting somewhere.
Triangle Kerchief - In the dark area, find the portal into the desert. Go all the way up until you find a group of weeds with an empty line through the middle. Go through it (it brings you to a similar area) then go up and right as much as you can until you reach the temple. Go through the park then enter the brick building. Talk to the flowers and then go back into the blue slate area. Somewhere in there is a ghost that gives you the effect.
Witch - Go to the red maze that can be reached from various parts in the dream and go into the purple structure somewhere in it. Go through the forest, then use the lamp power to continue. Get on the train and sit. Wait for a while (I waited 3 minutes, dunno how long it takes.) Then go out the left. Walk through the creepy area until you reach a gnarly tree. This gives you the effect.
Towel - The last ability you're missing... I forgot where I got it, though. All I remember is that you don't talk to a towel, only something towel-like... sorry! Or maybe it was a towel... eh. All I remember is that I got it early on and that it wasn't too hard to get.

Hey, if you get to the red brick building, talk the flowers and go back, and the entryway should be blue instead of red. Then wander around in that area until you find the ghost. It?is?there.
If it doesn't work, talk to the flowers again, I guess?
Only other one you're missing besides towel (how did I get that?) and triangle kerchief (just keep looking...) is Medamaude or whatever, which usefully brings you back to the door room. It's a hand with an eye in the room with hands and eyes, appropriately enough. Just wander around. It's just sitting by itself.
Yeah... er... that's the desert, alright. Go straight up from where you start and you'll end up in a loop. You'll find a plant formation like this
O O OO OO OOO OOO OOO OOO OOO OOO OO OO O O
Just go up through it. This terminates the loop, but you won't notice a change in the map. Just keep going up and to the right. Got it?

Hey, if I had dreams like hers every single time I went to sleep, I'd probably consider offing myself too. For a little girl, her psyche sure is?warped.
Toby:
I really didn't like the ending... but... yeah, did she kill herself because she couldn't tell the difference anymore, or because she couldn't sleep anymore without having horrifying dreams?
Hmmm...
Actually, it's an okay ending, if a really sad one, but I kind of felt that the game deserved better.

其他人:
Uboa is stupid.
The car crash man should be the mascot.
Toby:
Hey,
How the heck do you get "Uboa" to show up?
Also, if you find the patch, can you upload it somewhere? I'd really like to go to he FC worlds again...

WOAHHHHHHHHHHHH YUME NIKKI
I’ve said this before, but I really like this game. The atmosphere, the exploration, the MOTHER areas, stuff like that. They’re all simultaneously very meaningless and very meaningful to me, for reasons I don’t understand. Except I do. Or maybe I don’t.
Some people like?Incoherent_Moron?don’t like this game, but that’s okay. The game has absolutely no sense of direction, no driving force, no cohesion. There’s no gameplay besides just walking around. (Plus lots of people don’t like the ending.) The only thing pushing you forward is your own sense of mystery and wanderlust. Your only goal is to collect some things, and it’s a pain in the ass finding them all. I could definitely see someone getting turned off by this game, I don’t mind.
But if you’re like me, then you’ll really dig the weird areas and the creepy sound effects. This game makes me feel uncomfortable, but also like I’m not alone anymore. I like wandering around.
Doesn’t mean I don’t think the mazes?suck. Jesus Christ. They were a bit of a turn-off, yeah, at least the rest of the game made up for it. My advice to anyone that plays this game is to:
1. get the bicycle (use a faq)
2. do not cheat or look at any videos or anything and effing EXPLORE. what’s the point of playing something for yourself later when the entire point of the game is how it feels the first time?
3. after you’ve gone in ALL the doors and ALL the obvious areas, then use a FAQ and find all the abilities you’re missing
4. enjoy the ending
four is hard but I did it eventually

I am working on a Yume Nikki sequel which would have brought back Madotsuki, but the sequel that is not being worked on by me stars a character that looks like Madotsuki a bit, but her name is Urotsuki. Well I was but I bought a new computer with Vista and for some reason RPG Maker 2003 doesn’t work on Vista. So basically I am thinking about starting from scratch or working on a translation guide for this game. Either or I guess.
Toby:
How about instead of making dream games about girls, we make them about our own original characters or based on ourselves in the VEIN of Yume Nikki? Because I’d personally love to do this as well but just because you make something trippy doesn’t mean it has to be a sequel. Yume Nikki is something deeply personal to me and it annoys me when people try to make “sequels” to it, because it makes me kind of feel like they missed the point of the game. There’s nothing in the game to continue, really. Spiritual sequel maybe but whatever. At least draw your own main character sprite.
