while & whereas
to express contrast between different things, we can use either 'while' or 'whereas'.
Each can begin a sentence and can go in the middle.
While/whereas temperatures can be below 0 in winter, they can exceed 40 degrees in summer.
Xavier‘s father is French, while/whereas his mother is Chinese.

However, when talking about two things happening at the same time, only 'while' is correct in both positions.
