Along with the progression of human history, things might superficially change better in certain ways. However, people could never reach the status where they can accept anyone sincerely due to the consideration of personal interests. In fact, with the improvement of technologies and ideologies, they can even further intensify the segregation between people and eventually drive our world into eternal darkness. When the twilight is impending, who will be the last hopeful light shining there for us? In fact, in one utopian world we conceived and expected to have sometimes, Equestria, derived from a beautiful story named?My Little Pony, there was one female alicorn named Twilight Sparkle who acted as a pioneering role strengthening what is truly needed for our world’s coherent development. These values promoted are just inclusion, love, and friendship between different pony types, as well as different creatures. The words might seem simple and childish. However, achieving those goals in our real world is such an arduous journey to begin.

To start off, I would like to first talk about the representation of those four pony types in this cartoon series. Alicorns are the representation of the true leaders for our society, not necessarily possessing all other pony kind’s ability, but indeed having the ability to empathize with them. Unicorns, with their magical power on their horns, represented the scholars and elites from various disciplines with expertise. Pegasi, being way up in the clouds, symbolized the group of people who used their afflatus and creativity to flourish our world. Earth ponies, probably the least regarded ones, are the reflection of the people from the working classes, paying the toughest but most rudimentary efforts. It was the friendship bond and trust built between those pony kinds which supported them through any tragedies. Doesn’t this specifically correspond to our society’s structure??

For instance, Equestria used to have arguments between those pony beings emerging easily due to their unacceptance of each other’s abilities and focuses. It was just the pony named Twilight Sparkle who paid off her effort in relieving the tension between different pony types by building friendship connections with them varied in degrees. Such expression bonded up ponies’ trust, love, and cohesion, which made them stayed together whenever a catastrophe is imminent. Through the demonstration of this, Twilight Sparkle proved to everyone how successful she was in being a leader: not considering personal or a faction’s interest but accepting everyone’s talent and realizing that this is the right thing to make progression.?

Isn’t this a worthwhile dream for all of us focusing on different disciplines to achieve in order to promote our wholistic progression and survival? In our current society, some elites worked hard to override those creative workers because they believe creativity is nothing but ostentation, also to override those common laborers since the laborers were being marked as “semi or completely illiterate” and “agrestic”. Vice versa, some laborers sometimes look down on the people doing things seemingly more meaningful than them with assuming them being too showy. It was just a partial view for the whole society right now. But my point is: is there really a need to scorn other people focusing on different areas than we do? Elites do contribute a lot of foremost development, the creators flourished our world with mankind’s spirit, while the “l(fā)ow-class” workers provided all of us with the basic needs of life. Everyone is crucial for society’s function, and just almost no leader in our real-world has the ability to assure this.

Moreover, as the plot developed, more and more creatures started to have interactions with pony beings. The fractious griffons, dragons, and yaks; the tacit, self-blaming changelings and kirins; the curious but fearful hippogriffs/seaponies (those two kinds are mutually convertible) ... When they first had the communication with ponies, or with each other, it was such a great challenge since there presented a long-lasting gap of understanding between them. As previously referred, different creatures had different ways of treating the world due to their unique experiences. When just an insignificant fear or tiny negative impression leading to stereotype went into place, conflicts among those creatures inevitably arose. In fact, this situation clearly reflected our modern society containing people of different races and cultural beliefs. Looking back through history, or even just look at our society nowadays: how many conflicts had occurred between people due to their different beliefs??

In the story plot here, however, those racial conflicts were again and again alleviated through Twilight Sparkle’s establishment of her school of friendship. Those students coming from different backgrounds all learned how to respect each other’s differences, thus establish friendship and trust with each other through various opportunities Twilight Sparkle gave them. Those contents learned not only flourished the school community’s diversity but also positively influenced those creatures’ friends and family not attending this school of friendship. When the crisis of Cozy Glow, Queen Chrysalis, and Tirek intensifying racial tension through supreme power came into place, it was just the relationship strongly constructed between those different creatures which supported them through this fearful time. Eventually, possessing cohesion and love among all creatures in Equestria, they won the evil forces attempting to divide them, then lived a harmonic life afterward in such an inclusive world.

Isn’t this similar to us fighting against a huge global crisis which can disturb our unity? Most of the time, people here in our world have prejudice against each other similarly because of fears and stereotypes caused by the lack of understanding, usually compounded with personal interests. Thus, slight racism belief will eventually lead to racial discriminations, even genocides occurred, costing lots of loss in both tangible and spiritual ways. Not only did people died tragically, but the alive ones also had leftover with eternal wounds. Living on the same planet, why some people just became too egocentric, ambitious, or fearful which they used their actions to gradually disintegrate our global community? What’s even the point for this when every one of us relying heavily on each other to face every challenge coming ahead? I deeply understand that there are still extremists in our world impending the darkness who will never get my former point. But the thing is, the majority of us can understand what’s the right thing to do and change our mindsets for treating others. With this realization, the inclusive world will gradually approach the idealized state like the Equestria we conceived.

Maybe some plots in?My Little Pony?seemed to be childish and unrealistic, but it did teach us a great lesson of how to embrace each other’s similarities and differences in the most idealized way. The values proposed were indeed simple but realistically extravagant. Nevertheless, they are always being the most needed ones for transforming our dark world into a brighter one. We surely need you, like how this cartoon proposed with its symbols, to embrace each other’s differences in various aspects and promote better development of all of us. Yes, human beings’ development should not only maintain superficially anymore, and I believe you are the ones who can spiritually change the world’s mindset somehow through using your acceptance and love like this beautiful cartoon story expressed.
