MEMORY GUIDELINES
Since memory is something with no clear definition among players, we have determined our own guidelines for what is and is not a memory level.
These guidelines are not universal nor enforced on others, they are just what we use for this list. Everyone has their own opinion.
1.)The level must be rated. No Doomsday III, - I Ninety Nine I -, or Memory Demon Mix.
2.)The level must also be rated Demon. No ShakeN, Liquid Containers, StarQuake II, or Remember Way levels.
3.)The Memory List is not a hard definition for what is and is not memory, everyone has their own definition, as it doesn't have a universally accepted meaning. We exclude extremely learny levels like SIGSEGV, VEIL, and flow levels, however everybody is entitled to their own opinion. This applies to levels that don't reach our percentage threshold as well.If others believe those levels are memory, there is nothing wrong with that;we will not alter their perspective, but rather hope to reach a mutual understanding.
4.)Easy to learn doesn't make it not memory (at least most of the time, e.g. Neonize).Easy memory is still memory. As long as it reaches the required percentage for us to consider it, it typically counts.
5.)We do not count levels by how difficult to learn they are – we instead count levels based on how much memory is included. Levels can have primary skillsets
(like Apollo 13 being a wave level or PG Clubstep Rebirth being ship oriented), but if it has enough memory alongside that, it is counted. We understand some people disagree with this, but it's the rule we have set in place.
6.)We also do not rank levels on the list by how difficult they are to learn, only by the level's overall difficulty, like any other demon list.A level could have brutal memory but easy gameplay, so we take both into accountwhen placing them, and vice versa.
7.)Our percent requirements for a level to be considered memory are the following:
Easy Demons must be at least 35%-40% memory to be eligible for a server poll.Anything above 40% is an instant pass.
Medium-Extreme Demons must be least 50% memory to be eligible for a server poll.Anything above 60% is an instant pass.
8.)Obscured/decreased visibility can lean towards both memory or learny gameplay;the key difference we focus on is gameplay that differentiates memory and learny.
What we consider memory:
-Mazes
-Gameplay fakes (Orbs/portals, paths, fake blocks/structures, fake platforms, etc).
-Blind transitions and blind jumps (this includes blind buffers).
-Invisible gameplay (orbs, portals, platforms, the whole gddp Invisible Pack).
-Deco that is obscured to such a degree that you must learn it in order to play it(e.g The RealistiK, Requiem, 42%-64% in Fake A Might, FuryLocked's buildup, etc)
9.)We do not count dual levels(such as Dual Knight, Celestial Force, and Lotus Flower) or learny levels(SIGSEGV, Leyak, Toxin Lab III, ameliorate, and flow levels).Despite their learning curve, they often lack the aspects making up our requirements.SIGSEGV has little to no fakes and is just about a dash orb gimmick, flow levels are very difficult to read but are just about learning the motions, duals are all about learning how both icons work, etc.If their gameplay has aspects that fall under rule #7, then they can be considered(such as the duals in Blast Insanity, Mucho Fuego, or Memory for Dummies),but on their own they do not qualify.
10.)Minigame levels are accepted if they fall under rule #6 and #7(Puzzle Trials, GAME SWITCH, etc).
11.)Boss fights are considered, but only if the bosses lack or have incorrect indicators, as they are essentially fakes and purely memorizing the patterns at that point.Boss fight levels include Kappa Boss Fight, Osiris, or Ghost Temple, as they do not have indicators and must be memorized.
12.)Intro and end-screen sequences are discounted from a level's percentage, as well as prolonged auto sequences. If a level has a 7% intro and a 13% end-screen, we will just focus on the 80% of actual gameplay and alter calculations from there.
13.)Custom orbs and portals can fall under the memory qualifications as well, but only when they are difficult to read.Blackened orbs and portals like the 24% sequence in Nhelv or the orbs in Theory of Xoanons drop are some examples(there are admittedly not many examples).
Sorry for making it so long, but we wanted the information to be as understandable as possible, with examples and thorough explanations.
If you have any ideas or questions, contact one of the staff members through Discord and we will be open to discuss.
