WOLFSON COLLEGE

Wolfson is a unique Cambridge College for 21+ undergraduates and postgraduates, a place for grownups with curiosity, creativity and the desire to make an impact. Our students come to us from many locations and all walks of life and they enjoy the fact that College life reflects the preferences and interests of mature undergraduate and postgraduate, including part-time, students. All our students have one thing in common: they are driven by a restless curiosity and a desire for academic excellence.
We have a stimulating international atmosphere and strong overseas presence, bringing together students, Fellows and academic visitors, including our Press Fellowship. We pride ourselves in particular on meeting the needs of our part-time Master’s and our PhD students, offering mentorship and research skills training throughout the duration of your degree.

CLUBS AND SOCIETIES AT WOLFSON COLLEGE

The?Wolfson College Students’ Association?(WCSA) is the first port of call for most students. They run a wide range of social, sports, and welfare events during term and in the holidays, always in response to our students’ input. At the beginning of every year, WCSA organises an orientation week, helping you find your way around all the offerings at Wolfson College. During the Freshers’ Fair, you will be introduced to all our thriving societies, academic, entertaining or sporty, from our successful and competitive?Boat Club to our fascinating Science Society and more.
The?Wolfson College Boat Club?(WCBC) has been in existence for 50 years and is stronger than it has ever been. Our first ever crew, in the May bumps in 1968, was a mixed crew featuring the first?female cox on the Cam. We are very proud to continue this tradition?of inclusivity and welcome all members?of the College to join the Boat Club. And if you do not want to commit yourself to it, you can join our Social Rowing team and experience this traditional Cambridge sport without the competitive element. Or, if water sports is not for, join one of our other?sports teams, (football, cricket, squash, and many more) or take part in one of our many weekly yoga groups. Last, but not least, Wolfson has a reputation around town for fun dance classes and social events, free for Wolfson students.
In addition to our sports clubs, there are various other intellectual and academic societies. Wolfson also has a strong?musical tradition. There are various concerts and lunchtime recitals throughout the year, and the College Choir performs regularly during College services and at the annual summer garden party. Different interest groups organise term-long seminar series for the Humanities, Sciences, Education, and many more disciplines. Once a year, the interdisciplinary?Wolfson Research Event?provides our students with a platform to present their own research to a diverse audience. This event is a highlight of the academic year, showcasing the academic excellence produced by our students with support from, for example, our dedicated librarians’ skills workshops, our PhD mentoring scheme, and our committed tutors.
The most recent product of this unique egalitarian College structure is the newly formed?Green Society: Led by the WCSA Green Officer and a group of students, founding members include our members of our invaluable gardening team and our president’s husband. Together, they make Wolfson ‘green’, both on-site—in our student-run garden producing fresh produce for our kitchen—and in collaboration with the wider University.
All these clubs and societies continue to succeed thanks to a joint effort by students, staff, and Fellows; everyone at Wolfson gets involved.
WHAT MAKES WOLFSON SPECIAL?

Once you join our community, you become a Wolfson member for life. We maintain tight connections with all those passing through our doors and regularly connect with them all over the globe or welcome them back at Wolfson. The best example of loyalty to Wolfson College is undeniably our porter Louise Wilson. Everyone knows her as a member of our caring team of porters. She knows and understands our students better than most. Why is that, many wonder? The answer is: Louise is not only a member of staff, but also an alumna. She spent three years studying and living in on-site accommodation at Wolfson, and obtained her PhD in Medieval History in 2011. She must be the most highly-qualified porter around town.
