詞匯作為基礎(chǔ)，可是BEC考試必須掌握的重點，

今天，我們就來詞匯擴(kuò)充環(huán)節(jié)?---consolidate 以及并購相關(guān)的商務(wù)問題。

先來通讀下原題：We have continued to expand our network in a cost-efficient manner and have consolidated our retail section by combining our four wholly-owned retail businesses into a single operating unit.

在商業(yè)英語中 consolidate 作為動詞，都有什么含義呢？

第一，鞏固，加強(qiáng)，to make something stronger or more secure。

第二，合并，to join things together into one。這個意思在商務(wù)英語中非常多見，比如：

We have consolidated our retail section by combining our four wholly-owned retail businesses into a single operating unit.

我們通過將四個全資零售部門整合成一個業(yè)務(wù)部門，合并了我們的零售部門。

這里的 consolidate 就是“合并”，consolidate our retail section 即“合并我們的零售部門”。

相應(yīng)地，consolidate 的名詞是 consolidation.

與 consolidate 意義相近的詞是 merger。不過 merger 更側(cè)重“機(jī)構(gòu)和企業(yè)的合并”。

比如 a merger between the two banks兩家銀行的合并。

并購，也就是兼并和收購，對應(yīng)的表達(dá)是 merger and acquisition。
