PLA Navy Liaoning is China's first-ever aircraft carrier put to service, with a full length over 300 meters and width over 70 meters, full-load displacement over 60,000 tonnes. PLA Navy Liaoning comes from the USSR Navy aircraft carrier Varyag, which was handed over to Chinese PLA Navy for further building and renewal then delivered to service, officially renamed as Liaoning on September, 2, 2012 with hull number 16. With the enlistment of Liaoning, Chinese PLA Navy takes a milestone step in its construction and development, marking it a zero breakthrough in the number of aircraft carriers and a firm step for the goals of strengthening our country through maritime defense. In addition, Liaoning will also lead the development of our national defense and navigation industries, bringing a far-reaching influence on our country’s economic development, technical advancement and national defense enhancement.
