Some think the best city is "vertical" city where people live and work in tall buildings.

Others think "horizontal" city is better where there are few tall buildings.

Discuss both views and give your own opinion

Cities overwhelmed by skyscrapers are the result of urbanization and advancement of architecture and construction. Vertical cities and flat cities represent two different styles of city with peoples’ different attitudes towards culture heritage behind.

The majority of upward cities are newly built within 50 years, which is a boost of the land usage efficiency by accommodating a large number of people within one building. Take skyscrapers in Centre Business District to illustrate. They are a combination of working and entertaining such as eating and shopping. It is not uncommon for an employee to work on a certain floor while take lunch and shop on another. ?The benefit of such layout also means cities don’t have to expand, or even invade habitats where wild animals stay, accordingly protecting them.

When it comes to outward cities ,they are mostly seen in some traditional cities with histories. ?Take Italy to illustrate. There is a disparity between Milan and other cities in Italy. For locals, they don't consider Milan a Italian city as it is a modern city with tall buildings while other cities maintain the way how Italy used to. ?To some extent, such horizontal cities equal a well protection of the cultural heritage where not only locals could ground their roots, but also local revenue could be increased by intriguing more tourists. ??

Even though the choice between modern and tradition seems a dilemma. ?The solution is to build new facilities in new cities while conserve the old in their original places.
