好句摘抄:
1. "Nothing vast enters the life of mortals without a curse." 2. If you are not paying for the product then you are the product. 3. Apps are competing for your attention. Companies like this, their business model is to keep people engaged on the screen. 4. They are all these services on the Internet that we think of as free, but they are not free, they are paid by advertisers. They pay in exchange for showing their ads to us. We are the product. Our attention is the product being sold to advertisers. It’s a gradual, slight, imperceptible change in our own behavior and the perception that is the product. There’s nothing else on the table that could be possibly because of the product. That’s the only thing there is for them to make money from. Changing what you do,how are you think, who you are. 5. They sell certainty. In order to be successful in that business, they have to have great predictions. Great predictions begin with one imperative: do you need a lot of data. They build models that predict our actions, and whoever has the best model wins. 6. Many people call this surveillance capitalism, and capitalism profiting off the infinitive tracking of everywhere everyone goes by large technology companies whose business model is to make sure that advertisers are as successful as possible. 7. And it’s a marketplace that trades exclusively in human futures that has made the Internet companies, the richest companies in the history of humanity. 8. At a lot of technology companies, there are three main goals. there is the engagement goal: to drive up your usage,to keep your scrolling. There is the growth goal: to keep you coming back and inviting as many friends and getting them to invite more friends. and then there is the advertising goal: to make sure that,as all that’s happening, we are making as much money as possible from advertising. Each of these goals are powered by algorithms, whose job is to figure out what to show you to keep those numbers going up. 9. So we have created an entire global generation of people who are raised within a context, where the very meaning of communication, the very meaning of culture,is manipulation. We have put deceit and sneakiness at the absolute center of everything we do. 10. “Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.” 11. They learned how to make technology to more persuasive. Persuasive technology is just sort of design intentionally applied to the extreme, where we really want to modify someone’s behavior. Positive intermittent reinforcement is important, which operates just like the slot machines in Vegas. 12. They can affect real world, behavior and emotions without ever triggering the user’s awareness, exploiting a vulnerability in human psychology. 13. And we have moved away from having a tools-based technology environment to an addiction -and manipulation-based technology environment. 14. “There are only two industries that call their customers ‘users’: illegal drugs, and software.” 15. It’s not just that it’s controlling where they spend their attention.Especially social media starts to dig deeper and deeper down into the brain stem and take over kids’ sense of self-worth and identity. 16. We are training and conditioning,a whole new generation of people that when we are uncomfortable or lonely or uncertain or afraid, we have a digital pacifier for ourselves, that is kind of atrophying our own ability to deal with that. 17. When is it gonna cross singularity, replace our jobs,be smarter than humans? But there is much earlier moment when technology exceeds and overwhelms human weakness. This point being crossed is at the root of addition, polarization, radicalization, outrage-ification,vanity-ification,the entire thing. This is overpowering human nature, checkmate on humanity. 18. We accept the reality of the world with which we are presented. 19. Where is the existential threat? Technology has the ability to bring out the worst in society, and the worst in society being the existential threat. 20. It’s confusing because it is simultaneous utopia and dystopia.
