[MorningStorm SM64]SR2 Night of Doom - Course 15: Discolored Mad
SR2 Night of Doom - Course 15: Discolored Madness (No Savestates)
Aug 7, 2019
Star Revenge 2: Night of Doom is a Super Mario 64 hack created by BroDute. In this video, I complete course 15 of the hack without savestates. Stars are at these times:?
00:08 - Warp to Destroyed Star Boulevard
03:28 - Star 1 - First Steps in Exploration
07:49 - Star 2 - The Upper Way Around
13:09 - Star 3 - The Slippy Thingy Ride
16:02 - Star 4 - Break into the Tower
21:49 - Star 6 - The Final Secret Star
25:41 - Star 5 - A Mass Amount of Coins + 100 Coins
A really fun level to end the game, probably my second favorite level in the game after course 1. Honestly, this doesn't even crack my top 5 most difficult Night of Doom levels though. It's a test of endurance, but there aren't too many brutal jumps just a lot of moderately hard ones. Once you get into a rhythm with the level, it's not that hard though. I got the first 5 stars in this video all in one session of playing.
The coin-collecting here took me between 2 and 3 hours of attempts, so at worst I'd say it's on the fringe of the top 10 hardest stars in the game. The individual stars in this game that gave me the most trouble were B2 reds, C9 reds, C2 reds, and Anti-Weegee, probably in that order. C8 reds + 100s together took me the longest out of anything I did in the game, but since those two stars become much easier if you separate them I don't think they can be called the hardest individual star. C11 coin-collecting was also pretty rough.
I've now beaten Mario's Nightmare 64, SM74EE, Stars of the Beast, and Night of Doom (in that order). Four extreme hacks 100% completed! And hopefully more to come.
While C1 and C15 are really awesome levels, Night of Doom is easily my least favorite of the four hacks I listed and there were at least a half dozen levels I hated or strongly disliked (Anti-Weegee, Bowser's Old Domain, C7, C11, C12, Bowser 3 and to a lesser extent courses 4 and 6). So many parts of this hack felt designed to be annoying and frustrating rather than fair and challenging. While it's pretty much impossible to make a completely fair extreme hack, NoD suffers more from unnecessary enemy spam, poor camera angles, and other poor design choices than any of the others I've beaten. Ironically, Remnant of Doom is one of the best hacks I've played though (and almost all Star Revenge hacks are great). So yeah, Night of Doom wasn't devoid of enjoyable parts and levels, it just had more bad parts than the others. I just need to know why, just why would you ever design a level like Anti-Weegee? Why?
And finally, I'll say that after beating all these hacks including Night of Doom which is considered harder than SM74EE, Crudelo reds is still in a league of its own and on a completely different level from everything else when it comes to hardest stars I've gotten. There are definitely hacks out there hard enough to change that though.
