There's being bored, and there's being boring;but what about being bored of not being bored? It takes a gang of trulymiserable motherfuckers to pull that conceit off, and on "Angela Surf City", the Walkmen do just that. Of course, it's not characteristic ofthese guys to show their cards right off the bat, so Hamilton Leithauser startsoff sharing his concerns in that elegantly dour, slightly burnished croon ofhis: "Angela/ What's the difference?/ Today's a day like any other."He sounds a little annoyed, but it's mostly because he's tired of being aloneagain-- uh, sort of: "I dream of the time/ I was holding on to you/ For alack of anything to do." So: he's frustrated, but he doesn't really care, and the music reflects that, as?a taut?De(i)ck?Dale-esque beat gives way to thekind of forest-fire anthemic burn that we've come to know and endlessly lovefrom these NYC dapper dans. "Angela Surf City" is sardonic, sad-eyed,and loud all at once-- because, you know, it's the Walkmen.
人生即可以“being bored*”,也可以“being boring*”;當(dāng)倘若一個(gè)從未無(wú)聊的人開始無(wú)聊了呢? 當(dāng)然,一開始就亮出自己的底牌并不是這些人的特點(diǎn),所以Hamilton Leithauser在開頭先用他那優(yōu)雅沉悶、略顯焦灼的嗓音傾訴著他的憂慮:“Angela/ What's the difference?/ Today's a day like any other.”他聽起來(lái)有些惱火,但這是因他厭倦了再次孤獨(dú)——呃,就像是“I dream of the time/ I was holding on to you/ For a lack of anything to do.”
