average distance travelled by different modes

The table illustrates how the average distance travelled by different modes of transport in England changed?from 1985 to 2000. It indicates that the overall distance increased significantly from 4740 miles to 6475 miles during the 15-year period.
The average distance travelled by car per person per year was the highest both in 1985 and in 2000, growing dramatically from 3199 miles to 4806 miles. Although rising trends could also be seen in other four modes (long distance bus, train, other and taxi), these rises were?much slight. In particular, the distance travelled by taxi was quite short both in 1985 (13 miles) and 2000 (42 miles).
By contrast, walking, bicycles and local buses all suffered a loss in the average distance. The figure for local buses?declined more from 429 miles to 274 miles, while the figures for walking and?bicycles decreased much less significantly, dropping by around 10 miles.
All in all, it is clear from the table that there were decreases in distance traveled by walking, bicycle and local bus, while increases by other modes.?
