Bathroom:

1. toilet brush/ toilet bowl brush: 馬桶刷 to clean the toilet: What do you do is that you get what's called toilet bowl cleaner, a kind of this blue cleaning product, and you put it in the toilet, and you just let it sit for a little while, usually a minute or two, sometimes 15 min, and then you get toilet brush/ toilet bowl brush. And you scrub the toilet until it is completely clean.
2. plunger：馬桶欻子 (clogged/ plugged) Sometimes when you flush the toilet, it doesn't go down. So you put the plunger into the toilet, and you plunge the toilet.
3. bathroom scale: 體重秤 step on bathroom scale = weigh myself稱體重
4. mop 拖把 to mop the floor: you put into a bucket or pail(桶) of water with some soap or other cleaning product, and then you use the mop to mop the floor. We don't mop the room with carpet.
5. bucket/ pail 桶 When you have something wet, you would ring/twist water out. In that case, you put the mop in the bucket/pail, and you can kind of push to make some water out of mop before you use it. other uses for piles: if you are going to cleaning the windows, you would grab a bucket filled with soapy water from the bathroom.
6. iron: 熨斗 To use hot iron to iron clothes out, make sure they do not have wrinkles in them.
7. ironing board 熨衣板 When you are ironing, you need a ironing board, which can fold up, storing beside the sink in our bathroom.
8. bath/ shower mat: a small soft piece of carpet where you step when you get out of the bathtub or the shower. Some people like to put a bath mat in front of the sink, because they like to stand on something soft when brushing teeth, washing face, or putting on make-up.
9. towel rack: the place where you hang your wet towel, and dry them
10. drying rack: 晾衣架 When we do a lot of laundry, we will hang it on drying rack. We set it up outside if it's a nice day, or we'll actually dry our clothes inside in winter, because we heat our homes in Canada, which makes clothes can easily become dry in winter. Sometimes we put a fan beside it in spring or autumn, because we cannot put it in the rain, and dry clothes inside. If we want to use it, we would unfold it, and then we fold it up, and put it away where we're done with it.
11. Nightlight: a small light is only on during the light, not bright, but dim. In case, if you need to use the bathroom in the middle of night, you won't find your way in the dark from your bedroom to the bathroom, at least there's a little bit of light in the bathroom, so that you don't need to turn on the main light in the bathroom or washroom.
12. hamper where you throw the dirty clothes to be washed and keep hem until you do the laundry or wash them.

Kitchen

1. dish rack/ dish drying rack: 餐盤架 After we wash and rinse our dishes to get the soapy water off the dishes, we put them into a dish rack/ dish drying rack. And a dish rack has a special tray underneath so that the water, that clean dishes drips, goes into the sink.
2. tea towel/ dish cloth/ dish towel We wash dishes, rinse them, put them into dish rack, dry them with tea towel, and put them into cupborad.
3. broom 掃把 to sweep the floor
4. dustpan 簸箕 to pick up everything you've swept together
5. timer/ kitchen timer 計(jì)時(shí)器 It is something you would use during cooking or baking. If you are baking bread, the recipe says: put into an oven at a certain temperature for 25 minutes, you would set the timer to 25 min. When the timer counts down to zero, the timer would go off and start beeping, which reminds you to put a button and take the food out of the stove or oven.
6. recycle/ recycling bin: 回收箱 All paper, plastic and glass goes in the recycle bin instead of garbage bin.
7. garbage can/ trash can
8. compost bin: 堆肥箱 Anything can decay or composed of organic substance, such as food like meat, fruit, vegetables which has gone bad, and forgotten leftover, goes into compost bin.
9. Fire extinguisher: 滅火器 We definitely have fire extinguisher in our kitchen, just in case of fire.
