前列腺素E2（PGE2）是一種廣泛研究的前列腺素，因為它在炎癥、癌癥、動脈粥樣硬化、自身免疫性疾病和敗血癥中占優(yōu)勢。前列腺素合成酶（COX-1和COX-2）氧化花生四烯酸產生前列腺素H2（PGH2），前列腺素H2被PGE合成酶進一步代謝為其主要產物PGE2。PGE2通過與細胞表面的G蛋白偶聯受體（EP1、EP2、EP3、EP4）結合介導自分泌和旁分泌信號，起調節(jié)磷脂酶C和腺苷酸環(huán)化酶活性的作用。PGE2通過COX抑制劑（NSAIDS）調節(jié)其合成或通過下調或結合拮抗劑調節(jié)其受體，已成為治療靶點。PGE2在多種組織中的產生已被證明可調節(jié)多種生理過程，包括腎臟的鈉尿、血管系統的平滑肌彈性以及單核細胞和巨噬細胞對受損組織的炎癥反應。
